Encouraging Early Action Through Culturally Relevant Health Messaging
Supported by the NHS and delivered with a local charity partner, Close Shave uses culturally grounded storytelling to address prostate cancer awareness among Black men. The campaign encourages early screening, reduces stigma around health conversations, and promotes preventative healthcare through relatable, emotionally resonant messaging.

The Story Behind
Addressing Preventable Health Inequality
Close Shave was created in response to ongoing disparities in prostate cancer outcomes among Black men. The project focuses on increasing awareness, encouraging early detection, and normalising conversations around men’s health through culturally relevant storytelling.
The Challenge
Breaking Silence Around Men’s Health
Stigma, cultural silence, and lack of targeted messaging continue to prevent early health intervention among high-risk groups. The challenge was to create communication that felt accessible, respectful, and emotionally engaging without relying on clinical or fear-based messaging.
Our Approach
Culturally Grounded Health Communication
The campaign combined emotionally driven storytelling with community-led delivery to make health messaging more relatable and effective. By focusing on lived experience and trust-based communication, the project improved engagement with preventative healthcare messages.
